Before we write anything, we map what the reader already believes, what objection is active in their head, and what they need to be convinced of. The argument comes first. The writing comes second.

It covers the audience in specific terms, the objective in measurable terms, the existing copy and what is not working, and the constraints. The brief is the single most important document in any copywriting project. If it is vague, the copy will be vague.

It is the foundation for the argument structure. For digital products, we look at review data, support tickets, and onboarding analytics where available. That is the raw material for copy that works.

Annotated first draft

The first draft comes with notes explaining every key decision. Why this headline rather than another. Why the proof point is positioned here.
